Firstly, welcome to Catch22, Nottingham’s Expedition Team;
Lynne – Curriculum and Learning Lead
Gary – English Teacher (Cert Ed),Mountain Expedition Leader, DofE Supervisor/Leader,22 years Armed Forces, Head Ranger Back2Basics
Louis - SP lead LSA, ex NCS
Aaron – Director of Back2Basics Events Ltd.
Dixon – Springer Spaniel, Gun Dog, Sniffer Dog, Field Dog
Well, let’s start with the environment – Catch22, a provision for KS4 and SP in Notts. 25 students studying GCSE Maths, English, Functional Skills Maths and English and various BTEC Vocational subjects.
The mission – to take a group of students to Lady Bower Reservoir in Hope Velley, Peak District to undertake an expedition and complete a BTEC Module in basic expedition skills.
What happened? – a lovely walk around Peak District’s most prominent feature. Awesome weather – no waterproof needed all weekend! The students took part in camping, Laser Days, (compliments of Aaron), fire building and a few songs, although not co-ordinated lol! To finish the Saturday off, we had a lovely meal cooked by Lynne around an old fashioned table – reminiscent of ‘The Walton’s!’
I thought a meeting with student’s over a weekend brought together an understanding and a pleasant way of life. We, as staff enveloped life skills with parentage and introduced a family gathering with backgrounds who don’t have this opportunity.
Conclusion – use these outings as an induction to life at Catch22 and envelope a good relationship with empathy and understanding to improve education at school.
